Just because it's awesome

Yesterday morning I found this story online and got so wrapped up in it that I couldn't let go until I'd finished the whole thing. Then I had to scramble to make it to work on time and didn't get done anything I'd planned to do before I headed out.

It's a Neil Gaiman story, so right away you know it's going to be incredible. Then there's the twisty, coiling plot - practically none of which I'm going to share with you ahead of time. Go into it cold, just like I did, and you'll be so amazed and satisfied and shuddery by the end.

Just give yourself a good half hour to read it properly. You don't want to rush. And you might want to go right back to the beginning and reread once you've finished. Yeah, it's that kind of story. ;-) Oh, you can appreciate it perfectly well if you just take it as a supernatural adventure. But this story has layers, and darkly glimmering treasures beneath those layers. The more you dig, the more you find. As a matter of fact, dig deep enough and you'll discover a horror story lurking underneath the adventure tale.

I got the picture above from the Wikipedia page on the Isle of Skye, which is where a good chunk of the story is set. And that's all I'm going to say about the plot. But I'd love to hear what you have to say about it, if you read it!

Just finished reading the story. Certainly a rich and gripping tale with characters that were simple and straightforward while simultaneously rich and complex. Sometimes there's no story quite as refreshing as one built around a chilling wade through the gray, murky waters of moral ambiguity.
